Men’s style: belt tightening

In the flurry of holiday gift pitches crossing my desk, this caught my eye: Kale Miles’ line of men’s belts with buckles handcrafted from classic American model cars from the 1950s and ‘60s. I like the sculptural look of the scratched and antiqued metal buckles.

Kale Miles is a small New York-based men’s accessory company. The last time the brand was in the news was back in January, when New York magazine wrote about its $18,000 belt with platinum buckle and leather from an English tannery open since the Roman Empire -- the ultimate in luxe.

What a difference a few months makes. Maybe instead of tightening their belts, the Big Three automakers should start making them. Kale Miles Vintage belts are $385 at kalemiles.com and Fred Segal.
