Tustin : Longtime Civic Leader Leaves Planning Panel

Former Mayor James B. Sharp has resigned from the Planning Commission, leaving the board with four members.

Sharp said he has sold his home and no longer meets the requirement that commissioners be residents of Tustin. Sharp, who works at Cal State Fullerton, will still live in the area.

Sharp was first appointed to the board in November, 1964, and served--with two one-year interruptions--until September, 1973, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy on the City Council.

He served on the council, twice as mayor, until his resignation in 1982. In 1983, he was reappointed to the Planning Commission, serving as its chairman in 1983-84.

Mayor Frank Greinke, noting Sharp’s “many significant contributions to Tustin over the past 20 years,” said, “We will miss his experience and knowledge of the community. His personal and professional integrity have been a major factor in the quality of life we have come to enjoy.”

The council is accepting applications to fill the vacancy. Applicants should be registered voters and residents, and letters should be addressed to City Hall.
