Defense spending and insider trading on the stock market are among the topics to be discussed on TV’s public affairs shows this weekend, with a major rock concert offering an alternative for the more entertainment-minded.
Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger will discuss the defense budget on “Firing Line” at 5 p.m. Sunday (Channel 28). Earlier Sunday, “This Week With David Brinkley” will look at the the growing problem of insider trading with guests John Shad, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission; John Phelan Jr., chairman of the New York Stock Exchange; James Balog, vice chairman of Drexel Burnham Lambert, and Samuel Hayes III, a professor at Harvard Business School.
Meanwhile, the last of Amnesty International’s six rock concerts to raise awareness of the organization and its efforts to reduce human rights abuses will be televised live Sunday on cable TV’s MTV channel.
Eight hours of music are planned, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and featuring such performers as Sting and U2. The broadcast, originating at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., also will include taped highlights from the five previous Amnesty International concerts held this month.
Highlights from Sunday’s concert will air from 9 p.m. to midnight on KDOC Channel 56.
