Jack Latham, once Los Angeles’ most popular TV anchorman, is dead from a heart attack, it was learned today. Latham was 72 and died Thursday in Desert Hospital, Palm Springs. He came to KNBH (now KNBC, Channel 4) from radio in the early 1950s. He had been the “Richfield Reporter” on KFI. He soon moved to the forefront of TV announcers, surpassing then top-ranked George Putnam.
He left the station in a policy dispute in 1970 and for several years operated radio and TV stations he owned in Hawaii, Palm Springs and Indio. Most recently he was general manager of KDOC, Channel 56, in Orange County.
