Power Goes; So Do Employees

A transformer in the basement of the Great American First Savings Bank building in downtown San Diego blew up Thursday morning and caused a power outage, inconveniencing hundreds of workers.
No one was injured in the accident, but all employees of businesses in the building at 600 B St. were sent home shortly after the 9:30 a.m. power outage, a bank spokeswoman said.
Elevators, lights, telephones and computer systems remained inoperative throughout the day as work crews toiled to restore the power. The building’s operations are expected to be back to normal this morning, said Wanda Worley, the bank’s corporate operator.
