JAPAN: Japanese hotels have received a wave of cancellations from foreign business executives and tourists fearing terrorist attacks and hijacking since the outbreak of the Gulf War, hotel officials say. To compensate, luxury hotels in Tokyo have been forced to launch special promotional campaigns to lure domestic customers. Since the war started on Jan. 17, the Imperial Hotel, one of Tokyo’s most luxurious, has received more than 7,000 cancellations, worth $1.6 million, a hotel spokeswoman said.
