Organizers Satisfied With Just-Closed Fair

Organizers of the 53rd annual Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival said Tuesday that they were satisfied with this year’s just-completed event, despite a drop in attendance to the lowest level since 1988.
Total attendance for the 11-day fair, which closed Monday in Lancaster, was 295,224, down 5% from last year’s 310,961 but better than the 268,016 attendance for 1988. Paid attendance was 158,310 this year, down about 14% from last year’s 183,946 figure.
Fair officials blamed the drop on the recession and new year-round schedules that kept more children in school.
