Cerritos : Panel Will Hear Complaints on Sheriff’s Excessive Force
- Share via
An investigation of excessive force by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department moves to Cerritos tonight when a panel headed by retired Superior Court Judge James G. Kolts holds a public hearing from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Cerritos Regional County Park Gymnasium, 19700 S. Bloomfield Ave. Testimony will be taken from scheduled speakers and from the general public. Spanish translation will be available.
The County Board of Supervisors in December hired Kolts to investigate sheriff policies, practices and procedures as a result of citizen complaints about excessive force and insensitivity on the part of deputies. Hearings are being held in each of the sheriff’s three field operations regions.
Scheduled speakers tonight include representatives of Police Watch, a police misconduct lawyer referral service; Feminist Majority, Women’s Law Center, Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center and the Lambda Legal Defense Fund.
