USDHS Outlasts Poway for Hilltop-Moose Title

Chances are, if you ask him today, Rob Reiter will say he didn’t mind that the championship game of the Hilltop-Moose High School Baseball Tournament had been postponed three times.
Reiter, a senior left-handed pitcher for fourth-ranked USDHS, had a no-hitter for 6 1/3 innings of Saturday’s championship before settling for a one-hit, 1-0 victory over No. 7 Poway (14-6).
Reiter (6-1) walked four but did not allow a hit until David Kelch bounced a ground-rule double over the left-center field fence at Hilltop High with one out in the seventh inning.
USDHS (19-4) got its run and three of its four hits in the top of the first. With one out, Chris Richard and Jeff Moore singled. Ian Hamilton then drove in Richard with a ground-rule double.
The championship was originally scheduled for March 21 but was postponed twice because of rain and another time when the Sweetwater Union High School District canceled all events after the Rodney King verdict and subsequent rioting in Los Angeles.
