Toshiba-IBM Deal Reported: International Business Machines Corp. and Toshiba Corp. of Japan have agreed to develop jointly new-generation flash memory computer chips, according to Japanese newspapers. The Yomiuri Shimbun, quoting unnamed sources, said the companies will develop a memory device incorporating flash memory, which is a rewrite-capable read-only chip with advanced capabilities. A small, lightweight memory device using flash memory would be the heart of a new generation of computers, it said.
