What Happened to News?

Rosenberg’s article about Quint, along with his other articles in recent months about the demise of legitimate TV news, really hit the mark.
As a teacher of TV production (and a TV reporter for many years), I’m embarrassed at what I often see today. For the first time in my professional life, I’m finding it hard to defend TV news from a social-responsibility perspective, or to recommend it to students as a worthy profession.
Too bad. Before big business took it over, TV news used to represent an important and meaningful profession.
