PREP ROUNDUP : Westminster Girls Topple Crenshaw, 63-53

Rachel Kaban had 20 points and eight assists to help the Westminster girls’ basketball team to a 63-53 victory over Los Angeles Crenshaw Wednesday in the first round of the Santa Barbara San Marcos tournament.
Crenshaw, the defending L.A. City Section Division 4-A champion, was ranked seventh in the state in the preseason.
Lisa Tamamasui added 16 points and 12 rebounds for Westminster.
In another San Marcos tournament game:
Tustin 50, Santa Barbara 35--Sarah Davis had 25 points, 10 rebounds, nine steals and five assists for Tustin (1-0).
In the Ladycat Classic girls’ tournament:
Brea-Olinda 85, Rancho Cucamonga 33--Brea-Olinda (6-0) advanced to the championship game with a decisive victory at home. Nicole Erickson and Colleen Hudson had 12 points each for the Ladycats (6-0).
In the Woodbridge girls’ tournament:
Dana Hills 54, Garden Grove 25--Karun Grossman had 26 points, including four of eight from three-point range, and Nicolle Zuniga had 18 points as Dana Hills (3-1) won the consolation final.
In nonleague girls’ play:
Western 56, Loara 48--Isabel Rojas had 16 points and 16 rebounds for host Western (1-3).
In the Coca-Cola Converse boys’ basketball tournament:
Santa Ana Valley 80, Capistrano Valley 59--Darnell Adamson scored 18 points and Olujimi Mann 17 for the Falcons (2-0), who will play Pasadena Muir in the semifinals tonight.
Lynwood 83, Trabuco Hills 55--Joe Austin had 31 points and D’Cean Bryan had 23 points for Lynwood (4-1) in a quarterfinal victory. Ryan Karnoff had 17 points for the host Mustangs.
In the Costa Mesa Kiwanis boys’ tournament:
Magnolia 49, Sonora 42--LaShaun Neil had 17 points and Frank Henderson had 16 for Magnolia (4-1), which will play Fullerton today in the semifinals.
Century 53, Foothill 39--Hector Negrete had 13 points and Thomas Harmon had 12 points and seven rebounds for Century (2-1) in a quarterfinal game.
University 81, Los Amigos 56--Demetrius Zeigler had 27 points and Dustin White added 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead University (1-1). Ali Amiri had 16 assists for University, one shy of the school record.
In the La Quinta boys’ tournament:
Katella 75, La Quinta 57--Carlos Roditis and Mike Pahl each scored 19 for the Knights (5-1), who advanced to the final Friday.
In the Flintridge Prep boys’ basketball tournament:
St. Margaret’s 58, Rosemead Bosco Tech 57 (OT)--Lupe Rodriguez made two three-pointers in the last 30 seconds of overtime, including one at the buzzer, to give the Tartans (3-2) the victory in the title game. Damian Raibon, the tournament most valuable player, scored 31 points.
In the Faith Baptist boys’ tournament:
Brethren Christian 81, Los Angeles Salesian 41--Paul Diniakos had 20 points and Karriem Blake had 14 rebounds Brethren Christian (1-2) in a quarterfinal.
In nonleague boys’ games:
El Dorado 70, Troy 67--Dante Spencer made two free throws with three seconds left to secure the victory for El Dorado (2-2). Greg Abbott had brought Troy within one with a three-pointer seconds earlier. Abbott and Jeff Sand each had 21 points and Robbie Sammons scored 14 off the bench for El Dorado.
In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:
Woodbridge 1, Corona del Mar 1 (Woodbridge advances on penalty kicks)--Roberto Intriago scored midway through the second half to tie the score for Corona del Mar (3-1), but Woodbridge won the shootout, 5-4, to advance to the final against Irvine Saturday.
In the Irvine girls’ soccer tournament:
El Toro 1, Laguna Hills 0--Jaime Loebrich scored on a penalty kick with 12 minutes left to give El Toro (4-1) the victory in a semifinal. Heather Lindstrom, a sophomore goalkeeper, had 10 saves in her third shutout of the season. The Chargers will play Irvine in the final Saturday.
Irvine 4, Woodbridge 1--Jennifer Gillis, Shannon Filbin, Heather Swanson and Katie Roda each scored for the Vaqueros.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Sunny Hills 1, Brea-Olinda 1--Brian Yezarsky scored for the Wildcats and Rune Edgal tied the scored for Sunny Hills (3-2-1).
Loara 1, Villa Park 1--Joel Reyes’ goal from 25 yards out with 12 minutes left in the game gave Loara (0-3-1) a tie with visiting Villa Park (2-0-2).
Buena Park 2, Norwalk Glenn 2--Tim Jones scored two goals and Jesus Arrellano added one to lead Buena Park (2-1).
Costa Mesa 4, La Quinta 0--Fred Wood and Luciano DeLeon broke a scoreless tie by each scoring two goals in the second half for Costa Mesa (3-1-1).
Santa Ana 3, Estancia 0--Francisco Lagunas, Jaime Santana and Fernando Cortez each scored a goal to lead Santa Ana (2-1).
Sonora 4, Santiago 1--Paul Copeland broke a 1-1 tie on a breakaway goal late in the first half to lead Sonora (2-0-1).
Servite 3, Pacifica 1--Tony Cardenas, Scott Cutshall and David Sanfilippo each scored in the first half for visiting Servite (2-1).
Ocean View 3, Katella 1--Kurt Mascio scored two goals and Juan Pastor added the third for Ocean View (2-2).
Westminster 2, Century 0--P.J. Navarro and Ismael Varela forWestminster (2-1).
El Modena 2, Rialto Eisenhower 0--Justin Boyce and Nick Purden scored to lead El Modena (3-1).
Troy 2, Savanna 2--Savanna (1-2-2) took a 2-0 lead at the half on two goals by Jose Pettis, but Savanna answered with goals by Robert Alviso and Louis Cruz.
Santa Margarita 4, Fountain Valley 0--Seth George scored twice for sixth-ranked Santa Margarita (2-0).
