MIGHTY CLIPPERS: The good news is that the Anaheim Arena reported record-breaking ticket sales Thursday. The bad news? Neither of the teams playing was from Orange County. The L.A. Clippers had borrowed the arena for a game against the New York Knicks since their own arena suffered earthquake damage. But Mighty Duck fans say it’s no reflection on the home team. “The tremendous showing . . . merely shows that Orange County can also support a basketball team,” said arena spokesman John Nicolleti.
LOVE CONNECTION: Want to find the secret to reeling in the perfect man or woman? On the heels of Valentine’s Day, the Garden Grove leisure services department will sponsor a seminar Feb. 16 titled “Secrets Every Single Should Know--Abandoning the Myths.” For a $29 fee, participants will learn the “12 powerful techniques for taking charge of their love life.”
DIRECTOR COBB: Working Woman magazine lists Jewel Plummer Cobb, retired president of Cal State Fullerton, at No. 8 nationwide in a ranking of women “corporate divas” who pull down big bucks to serve on corporate boards. The February issue says Cobb hauled in $220,651 in 1992 to serve on the board of directors of several companies, including First Interstate Bank Corp. . . . But Plummer is downplaying the ranking, saying she knows of several women who made more.
BIG SPENDERS: Imagine watching those 30-minute TV infomercials for a living. A Tustin firm not only reviews each one, but ranks them by the amount of money spent to air them. Jordan Whitney Inc. figures producers shelled out $450 million last year for so-called paid programming. . . . The big spender at $25 million: a half-hour production with singer Dionne Warwick called Psychic Friends, which offers viewers a 900-telephone line to discuss psychic phenomena.
