Irvine, Sr.
Swimming / Sprints
The sprints in swimming are usually decided by slim margins, but Lezak’s performance was anything but the norm Saturday at the Foothill Swim Games. Lezak, the swimmer of the meet, didn’t have to touch out anyone to win the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events: He won each by more than a second. He won the 50 in 21.30 seconds, a meet record and almost 1 1/2 seconds ahead of the field, and the 100 in 47.30. He won each by at least a body length. He also was the anchor on Irvine’s freestyle relay teams, which won the 200 and finished second in the 400.
Other notables:
* Mike Clark, Kennedy, hit a grand slam on a 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the seventh to give the Fighting Irish a 6-4 victory over Santiago.
* Troy Langley, Canyon, set a school high jump record by clearing 6-10 1/4 in a dual meet with Foothill. He also won county championships title.
* Jaime Martinez, Orange, won the 1,500 meters (3:56.89) and the 3,000 (8:38.94) by large margins at the county championships.
* Philip Schildts, Calvary Chapel, had 24 kills in a four-game victory that stopped Whittier Christian’s 47-match volleyball winning streak.
