Franklin 78, Van Nuys 51--Senior forward Johnny Sanders scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds in leading the Panthers to an easy win over Van Nuys in a first round City 3-A playoff game at Franklin.
Franklin exploded in the first quarter with a 12-2 run in the first three minutes, as Sanders hit three successive three-point shots and a monster dunk.
Leading 33-17 with 4:07 left in the first half, starting senior guard Jeff Deno gave his Franklin teammates a scare when he left the game with a badly sprained right ankle and did not return. It did not affect the outcome of the game, however, as the Panthers rolled the rest of the way, leading by as many as 31 points. Forward Kesh Desargent added 17 points for the Pathers. Kris Hurdle led the Wolves with 19 points.
