DOWNEY : Raises for Top Police, Fire Officials OKd

The City Council has approved 10% salary increases for high-ranking police and fire department officials.
Downey’s police chief and 10 law-enforcement managers with the rank of captain and lieutenant will receive 8% raises March 3 and an additional 2% in July. The fire chief, fire marshal and three battalion chiefs will receive the same increases.
The council last week voted 4 to 0 to approve the compensation packages.
Councilman Robert S. Brazelton was absent. The council recently approved similar increases for police officers and firefighters.
