Group to Lead Hikes in Happy Camp Park
The first of two nature hikes in Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park being planned by a local environmental organization will be held Sunday.
The second is scheduled for June 9.
Each hike will be led by Roseann Mikos, a docent for the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Mikos and hike co-leader Janet Murphy, both members of the Moorpark chapter of the Environmental Coalition, will discuss a proposed 3,221-home development planned for property adjacent to the park.
Hikers will head up a winding three-mile trail through an oak woodland and up to a natural spring in the park. Mikos and Murphy will point out natural points of interest and talk about the park’s history as a cattle ranch and home to Chumash Indians.
For more information, contact Mikos at 529-4828 or Murphy at 523-7913.
