Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has awarded a $4,100 grant to the Organization for the Needs of the Elderly, a Van Nuys social service agency, the supervisor’s office announced Thursday.
The funds will come from a discretionary account--each supervisor controls such an account used to help fund organizations of their choosing.
Yaroslavsky said the grant will be used to install acoustic panels on the ceiling and carpet in one of the center’s three preschool rooms.
“It’s critical that we try to provide our community’s seniors and young people opportunities to visit and socialize together,” Yaroslavsky said in a written statement. “ONE’s innovative and award-winning day care center offers children an exceptional educational experience to interact with seniors, while these other adults participate in rehabilitative programs that can help sustain and enrich their quality of life.”
