* EQUESTRIAN: A two-day competition in team roping, barrel racing and team penning will be held at Alameda Auto Plaza. Various gym khana events will also be held. Fees range from $3-$25. (213) 756-7022.
* SAILING: A two-day American Sailing Assn. symposium will be held at Long Beach Yacht Club. Featured topics include overboard victim recovery, team sailing and trouble-shooting a disabled boat. Tickets are $150 and include a Friday night reception. (310) 822-7171.
* SURFING: Waterwomen Inc., a new women’s surfing organization, will play host to a shortboard, longboard and bodyboard competition in novice, amateur and pro divisions at the Oceanside Pier. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m. Fees are $15-$25. Competitors who are not members of Waterwomen Inc. must join before the event for a $40 fee.
