Workers Try to Aid 4 Injured Climbers

Rescue crews were trying to reach four climbers injured in two separate falls in a treacherous snow chute high on Mt. McKinley. A group of British climbers fell 300 feet and two Americans fell nearly 3,000 feet, National Park Service spokeswoman Jane Tranel said. Both falls occurred just below the 19,000-foot level in a snow chute known as the Orient Express. A member of the British group told officials that one man fractured an ankle and another was unconscious with a head injury. Both Americans sustained serious injuries. One was unconscious and the other suffered several fractures and was reported in stable condition.
