City to Enter Rose Parade Float After 40-Year Absence

The city will enter its first float in the Rose Parade in 40 years next January after the City Council accepted an invitation and agreed to pay the $2,500 entry fee.
“This is part of the city’s 75th anniversary celebration,” said Councilman Michael Touhey. “It’s a great opportunity to promote the city.” The float is expected to cost $120,000, officials said.
The invitation from the Tournament of Roses was offered to West Covina after Arcadia, a regular parade participant, pulled out last week, Touhey said.
Float construction will be coordinated by the committee that oversaw the celebration of the city’s 75th anniversary early this month.
