Boeing Launches U.S. Satellite for Russia

In the first launch of its kind, an American-made broadcasting satellite rocketed into orbit to serve Russia and Israel. The satellite, launched by rocket maker Boeing at Cape Canaveral, is to provide digital TV service to a potential 200,000 subscribers. Operations should begin by the end of December, officials said. Hughes Space & Communications Co. built the satellite, which was launched aboard a Boeing Delta rocket. The satellite and rocket cost $150 million.
