Tony Cicero couldn’t ask for two better days.
The senior catcher sparked Cleveland High to a 3-1 victory over Huntington Park in the City Division championship game Thursday at Dodger Stadium.
Cicero was drafted Wednesday by the Oakland A’s in the 15th round.
“It’s been the best week of my whole, entire life,” Cicero said.
Cicero had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run to help the Cavaliers (15-15) win their first title since 1982. He relieved Jason Wigginton (5-1) with one out in the fifth inning and held Huntington Park (23-10) hitless the rest of the way.
Vince Zuniga had two hits, including a leadoff triple in the third that led to Cleveland’s second run.
