With a 23-3-1 record, Mission League champion Crespi probably expected a relatively easy first-round opponent in the Division I playoffs. But Long Beach Wilson (19-9), the third-place finisher in the tough Moore League, doesn’t fit the bill.
Today at Valley College, Wilson will start senior right-hander Joey Pace (7-1), who has signed with Long Beach State.
It means Marshall Plouffe (10-1) of Crespi could face his toughest pitching matchup of the season.
Look for few runs to be scored.
“It’s going to be a dogfight,” Celt Coach Scott Muckey said.
