Gonzalez Shuts Out Banning

Abraham Gonzalez pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts to help San Fernando High defeat Banning, 8-0, in a nonleague baseball game Tuesday at San Fernando.
Gonzalez (3-0), a senior right-hander, walked four.
Danny Salazar had two hits and gave San Fernando (5-1) a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring single in the second inning.
The Tigers extended a 2-0 lead with a six-run sixth inning, getting a two-run double from Jesus Martinez and a two-run single from Miguel Gonzalez.
Banning is 3-3.
Crespi 16, Harvard-Westlake 6--Freshman Trevor Plouffe (2-0) pitched four innings and hit two triples and a single for the Celts (4-1) in a Mission League opener at Franklin Field in Encino.
Notre Dame 18, St. Francis 9--Alex Puccinelli’s two-run single highlighted a 14-run seventh inning for Notre Dame (4-2) in its Mission League opener at Brookside Park.
Oxnard 6, Hueneme 5--Alex Merricks (2-1) singled in the winning run in the seventh and pitched a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a Pacific View League opener at Oxnard. The junior left-hander walked nine.
Oxnard (2-3) tied the score, 5-5, in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Brandon Stewart.
Chatsworth 5, Carson 4--Joe Guntz (3-0) scattered seven hits, struck out three and walked three while giving up two earned runs for the Chancellors in a nonleague victory at Carson.
Justin Cassel had three hits and two runs batted in for Chatsworth (6-0). Cassel’s one-run double in the fifth gave the Chancellors a 5-1 lead and his run-scoring single in the third gave them a 3-0 lead.
George Spadier had two hits and one RBI for Chatsworth.
Calabasas 4, Leuzinger 3--Matt Green (1-0) struck out two in one inning of relief, then singled in the winning run with two out in the eighth of a nonleague game at Calabasas.
The Coyotes (4-2) trailed, 2-0, before scoring a run in the fourth on a passed ball. They took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on Evan Tuchman’s run-scoring double and a run-scoring groundout by Kyle Rudow.
Granada Hills 3, Franklin 0--Jon Beal pitched a five-hitter, striking out seven and walking three, for the Highlanders (4-1) in a nonleague victory at Granada Hills.
Mike Seiser hit a two-run double for Granada Hills, which had 10 stolen bases. Bobby Baca and Ryan Braun each had two hits.
Crescenta Valley 6-2, Monrovia 1-1--Kris Krise (2-0) pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Bryan Rich scored on an error in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Falcons a nonleague sweep at Stengel Field in Glendale.
Brandon Higelin (1-0) pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts in the opener.
Agoura 10, Nordhoff 0--Paul Farinacci (2-0), who combined with Nick Trombetta on a two-hitter, had two hits and three RBIs for the Chargers in a nonleague game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Agoura.
Farinacci hit a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly and a single.
He struck out six and walked one in 4 1/3 innings before yielding to Trombetta for the final two outs.
Birmingham 11, Van Nuys 1--Jimmy McGrath, Jose Carrillo, Raul Campos, Luis Parra and Efrain Cervantes each had two hits for the Patriots (3-3) in a nonleague victory at Birmingham.
Saugus 10, Simi Valley 8--The Centurions sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the third inning of a nonleague victory at Simi Valley.
Ryan Lindgreen, who hit a three-run home run in the third, and Garner Humphrey, who had a home run and two RBIs, had two hits for Saugus (4-2).
John Arisohn had two hits and Steve Westerfield had two RBIs for Simi Valley (3-3).
Moorpark 7, Santa Paula 3--David Burckin’s two-run home run capped a four-run seventh inning for the Musketeers in a nonleague game at Moorpark.
Blake Sharpe went three for three and Brian Garcia had two hits for Moorpark (4-2).
St. Bonaventure 9, Santa Clara 1--Jack Swisher (2-0) allowed two hits, a walk and a run in the first inning before retiring the last 19 batters for the host Seraphs in a nonleague victory.
Brandon Mascorro had three hits, three RBIs and three runs for the Seraphs (5-1).
Village Christian 3, Lancaster Desert Christian 2--Ian Martin scored the winning run from second base with one out in the seventh when Desert Christian’s first baseman dropped a low throw of Matt Delgado’s grounder in a nonleague game at Tujunga Little League Field.
Martin (2-0) pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Crusaders (4-1).
