Innings Pile Up on Freeway

Anyone wanting to see a lot of softball should consider watching a game involving a Freeway League team. Last week, Shannon Deutschmann of Sunny Hills out-dueled Carrie Wisen of Sonora in a 16-inning game, winning 1-0. It’s the second time a Freeway League team played at least 15 innings; Troy defeated Tustin earlier this year, 1-0, in 15 innings.

Troy shortstop Lisa Jackson broke out last week, going six for seven with three doubles, a home run, six runs batted in and four runs against Buena Park and Fullerton.

MINIMUM EFFORT

Courtney Fossatti, who has pitched a perfect game this season, threw a one-hitter last week against Villa Park in a 9-0 victory.

She gave up a leadoff single and hit a batter, but both runners were thrown out by catcher Jamie Dotson. Fossatti faced the minimum number of batters.

LOOKING AHEAD

Kennedy, which lost its first three Empire League games, can avenge those losses if it wins against visiting El Dorado today and at Cypress on Thursday.

Costa Mesa will try to prevent host Northwood from going undefeated for the second consecutive season when the Pacific Coast League rivals play on Thursday.

The Michelle Carew Classic championship game will be 3 p.m. Saturday, when Canyon hosts Pacifica.
