It’s not uncommon for superheroes to be in need of therapy--that “Batman” is one messed-up dude--but the crime fighters featured in a three-day double bill starting Sunday at the New Beverly Cinema would make particularly interesting case studies. The 1984 cult favorite “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension” stars a pre-”RoboCop” Peter Weller as a neurosurgeon/rocket car driver/physicist/rock ‘n’ roller who, with his odd assortment of sidekicks, battles the even stranger Dr. Emilio Lizardo, played by a waaay over-the-top John Lithgow. W.D. Richter directs Earl Mac Rauch’s script. Lining right up behind them for the therapist’s couch are the genetically empowered mutants of “X-Men.” Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman head the cast of Bryan Singer’s 2000 summer hit.
