North Korea Launching High-Tech Ventures

Isolated nation North Korea has let in a glimmer of high-tech light by building a fiber-optic link to China and allowing its first Internet joint venture--an online lottery run by a South Korean company.
DPRKoreaLotto.com will start operating this week using the country’s first high-speed Internet link via a cable to the Chinese border completed by North Korea’s Ministry of Communications last month, according to one of the joint venture’s founders.
The project is the brainchild of South Korean businessman Kim Beom-hoon, president of Hoonnet Co.
Kim approached the South and North Korean governments with his idea about 18 months ago.
