Musical ‘Gold!’ retitled ‘Bounce’

Stephen Sondheim’s new musical is no longer “Gold!” -- instead it’s “Bounce.” The title change was announced by the Goodman Theater in Chicago, where the show -- with score by Sondheim and book by John Weidman -- will open June 30.
Harold Prince will direct the historical piece about brothers Addison and Wilson Mizner, former Alaska gold prospectors who engineered a Florida land boom and bust during the Roaring ‘20s. The work originated as “Wise Guys” in a 1999 workshop in New York, directed by Sam Mendes.
Prince said the new title reflects “the abiding message of the show ... that the best of America is pioneering -- that we have an uncommon resilience and the ability to reinvent ourselves.”
