Worker Dies in 40-Foot Fall Down Elevator Shaft

A 24-year-old construction worker died Thursday morning when he fell 40 feet down an elevator shaft at a parking garage construction site near the Queen Mary.
Edward Ulloa of Whittier suffered massive trauma injuries in the fall at 7:15 a.m. on Queens Highway in the Port of Long Beach, said Fire Capt. Scott Clegg.
Upon arrival at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Ulloa showed minimal signs of life, Clegg said. Ulloa died just after 11 a.m.
