Coach Pleads No Contest to Statutory Rape

Former UCLA football player and Rialto Eisenhower High School football Coach Glenn Thompkins pleaded no contest last week to one count of statutory rape involving a former female student at Eisenhower. He faces three years’ probation and up to 180 days in county jail when he is sentenced June 10.
Thompkins faced 11 felony counts and a possible eight-year prison term before agreeing to a plea bargain.
San Bernardino County Deputy Dist. Atty. Verna Carey said she agreed to the plea bargain so the victim, who was 17 at the time, wouldn’t be subjected to a lengthy trial, and also because Thompkins had no criminal record.
