* U.S. 30-year mortgage rates fell to an average of 5.77% last week from 5.81% a week earlier, while 15-year mortgages averaged 5.21%, down from 5.23%. One-year adjustable rates edged down to an average of 4.10% from 4.19% a week ago.
* U.S. consumers’ applications for home refinancing and purchasing fell during the holiday week ended Dec. 31, even though mortgage rates declined, the Mortgage Bankers Assn. said Wednesday.
