Rangers Extend Streak

Alfonso Soriano homered twice, rookie Chris Young pitched eight strong innings and the Texas Rangers won their season-high seventh consecutive game, 6-2 over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night at Arlington, Texas.
Michael Young and Mark Teixeira also homered to give the Rangers 21 home runs during their winning streak, which is the longest active run in the majors.
Young (5-2) gave up one run and six hits, struck out five and didn’t issue a walk. He took a shutout into the seventh, but Paul Konerko’s leadoff home run -- his 13th -- ended the bid.
Minnesota 7, Toronto 2 -- Johan Santana and Matt Guerrier combined on a five-hitter, and Shannon Stewart and Juan Castro homered to lead the Twins at Toronto.
Staked to a 7-1 lead in the third, Santana (6-2) gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings.
Blue Jay starter Josh Towers (5-3) yielded a club-record 14 hits and gave up seven runs -- five earned -- in six innings.
Cleveland 4, Oakland 1 -- Cliff Lee overcame two rain delays totaling 47 minutes and combined with four relievers on a four-hitter at Cleveland. Lee (6-2) yielded two singles in six shutout innings for his fourth win in five starts.
Detroit 4, Baltimore 3 -- Starter Nate Robertson (2-3) gave up three runs, six hits and a walk in 7 2/3 innings at Baltimore, and the bullpen held on to help the Tigers stop a four-game losing streak.
Tampa Bay 5, Seattle 4 -- Josh Phelps’ fourth homer in his last seven games gave the Devil Rays a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning at St. Petersburg, Fla. He had homered once in his first 29 games.
