He can fix potholes, but what about congestion?

If Gregory Rodriquez had spent time in L.A. in the last month, one would never know it from his remarks about Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. I can tell you from experience that this mayor is doing more than showing up for photo-ops. Two weeks ago, I reported a pothole on the Moraga entrance to the San Diego Freeway and, voila, it has been repaired.

This mayor is doing what his predecessor failed to do: encouraging a dialogue with the citizenry, thereby conveying a desire to know about problems and correct them.

Re “Signaling New Help With Traffic,” Oct. 8

L.A. City Councilman Tom LaBonge’s and Villaraigosa’s new plan to use traffic control cops at 38 L.A. intersections is a rehash of an old plan that didn’t work. To eliminate clogged intersections, you enforce the law. In every bad intersection, you post signs, traffic cops and tow trucks. If your car is caught in the intersection after the light changes, you are given a huge fine and your car is towed. When drivers understand they won’t get away with causing traffic jams, they will stop.
