Radio Rivalry Escalates Into Clash That Kills 24

A battle for the airwaves between two Islamic preachers who have FM radio stations escalated into fighting that killed at least 24 people.
The government threatened action unless tribal militiamen left the scene of the heaviest clashes in the Khyber region.
Hundreds of supporters of Mufti Munir Shakir gathered in Badshahkili village to destroy the home of a supporter of Shakir’s rival, Pir Saifur Rahman, officials and residents said.
Rahman’s supporters resisted.
The two sides traded fire, using mortars, grenade launchers, assault rifles and hand grenades, residents said.
