Child annoyance charge against teacher dropped

Prosecutors on Thursday dropped a child annoyance charge against an English teacher at Las Flores Middle School in southern Orange County.
Elsie Cathy Rodriguez was charged in May with having an inappropriate relationship with a then-14-year-old male student. If convicted, she could have faced a year in jail.
She was placed on administrative leave after prosecutors alleged that, although no physical contact occurred, the teacher had been been “grooming” the boy for future sexual activity.
Susan Schroeder, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office, said prosecutors had determined there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the case.
