At least 46 people were killed in two days of fighting between Uzbek militants and tribesmen in Pakistan’s South Waziristan region, where the government is urging tribes to battle Al Qaeda-linked fighters, officials said.
The clash broke out Monday near the town of Wana, a senior military official and a senior government official said. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were unauthorized to make comments to the media.
They did not immediately have details on the allegiances and identities of the dead.
