Palm Springs man held in slaying, rape

A Palm Springs man has been arrested in the killing of a 56-year-old woman and sexual assault of her 33-year-old daughter-in-law, authorities said.
Sherhaun Kerod Brown, 29, was arrested Monday shortly after the crimes were reported.
The rape victim ran to a neighbor’s house in the 57900 block of Canterbury Road to report the attack about 10:30 a.m. Her two young children were in the house during the attack, sheriff’s officials said.
Brown allegedly fled in a victim’s car, which was spotted by a sheriff’s helicopter in a remote area of Moreno Valley about 2:30 p.m.
He was arrested a short time later, authorities said.
