LAPD workweek

Re “Short-shifting L.A.,” editorial, Nov. 21
Three 12-hour-day workweeks may work in factories or assembly lines, but enterprises that serve the public generally depend on their representatives to develop relationships. Short workweeks discourage this because employees are unavailable for extended periods.
It is particularly disconcerting to call your Los Angeles Police Department contact to discuss a neighborhood problem only to hear a message that it may take about four to five days to return your phone call.
Three-day workweeks are incompatible with the aims of community policing.
