Drum ‘n’ bass music may have peaked in popularity a decade ago, but there are still plenty of hard-core believers left in Los Angeles. Some of the fiercest supporters these days of the sped-up (often reaching 180 beats per minute) dance music variant are female DJs. On Saturday, a distaff lineup of DJs, including North Hollywood’s DJ Shortee (pictured), will mix up hip-hop with frenetic drum ‘n’ bass riddims from London and beyond for Elemental’s 2nd annual Preying Mantas Birthday Jam at the Derby. Just don’t call it “jungle.” 9 p.m. Sat., the Derby. $10. www.clubderby.com.
