A man who stole purebred Yorkshire terrier puppies at gunpoint was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Troy Cabral, 24, sobbed as he was sentenced in Superior Court. He pleaded guilty in November to robbery with use of a gun and assault with a firearm.
Cabral and Ryan Betton, 19, were charged with the Feb. 23 robbery of a family that had advertised the puppies for sale for $2,500 each.
Prosecutors said the men went to the family’s Wilshire-area home and said they wanted to see the puppies.
They later returned and rushed inside when the door was opened. They turned themselves in after surveillance video of the crime aired on TV.
The dogs were later recovered.
Betton was sentenced to two years in prison in December after pleading guilty to robbery.
