POP MUSIC
The Cannoneers Formed in the spring of 2009, the L.A. band delivers nuggets of straightforward rock dusted with Brit-pop sensibilities and interlocking guitar riffs. This show marks the first of a monthlong residency at the Echo. 1822 Sunset Blvd., L.A. 8:30 p.m. Free. (213) 413-8200.
Dave Alvin The Downey-born roots-rocker was a founding member of the seminal Southland rockabilly act the Blasters in the late ‘70s, but he’s still going strong more than 30 years later. Catch him spinning a web of country, blues and rockabilly in an intimate setting backed by crack musicians. Redwood, 316 W. 2nd St., L.A. 10 p.m. (213) 680-2600.
The Fling / Belle Brigade Two of the Eastside’s buzziest rock bands, the Fling and Belle Brigade, double up for a show that could open a good year for each. Each loves giant harmonies, hazy arrangements and a big sense of indie rock drama. Satellite, 1717 Silver Lake Blvd., L.A. 8:30 p.m. Free. https://www.thesatellitela.com
MOVIES
Singin’ in the Rain Built in 1947, the historic Bay Theatre provides a rare opportunity to see the beloved Gene Kelly musical in a theater older than the movie itself. The Technicolor classic skewers the transition from silent films to talkies in ‘20s Hollywood. Bay Theatre, 340 Main St., Seal Beach. 8 p.m. $8. https://www.baytheatre.com.
