In this ever-changing Lower East Side nabe of bodegas, guitar shops, bars, and too-cool-for-school indifference, Tease Salon fits right in. The slightly grungy, tragically hip little chop shop is full-on rock �n roll, and knows it. Opened in late 2005 by veteran Kropps and Bobbers stylists Jackie DiFazio, Margie Banal, and Troye Evers, Tease offers the basics in haircuts and color�scissor and razor cuts, highlights and single process color (the funkier the better)�as well as Evers’ specialties: extensions and relaxers. Decorum may not be their métier, but hair is, and with decades of combined experience and a diverse clientele, the stylists are just as likely to craft an Upper East Side mom �do as they are a downtown Rod Stewart shag (though they prefer the latter). Designed by architect and Bowery Ballroom/Mercury Lounge owner Mike Wench, whose metal trimmings help toughen up the lavender-and-polka-dot walls, the diminutive salon has only four chairs, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in attitude and decibels. Clients enjoy juice, water, or tea during the day; after five, it’s time to break out the complimentary wine. Pureology products are available for sale. — Sarah Walker

The owners encourage everyone to check out the �best rock �n roll bathroom on the Lower East Side,� a tiny crapatorium that features a photo collage of 70s and 80s rock icons (think Iggy, Dee Dee, and Patti) by Village Voice photographer Leslie Van Stelten.
