What Up in the Air should have been. Surprisingly somber and complex, this film nails the quiet desperation of white-collar joblessness with a minimum of condescension and artificial upliftï¿½thanks primarily to a sterling cast including an Oscar-worthy Cooper, who has never been more affecting.
