Profile
Home to one of the city’s most extensive collections of antique printed matter, Argosy has been aroundand run by the same familysince 1925. On the hushed first floor, thousands of its general stock fills floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, while the mezzanine is reserved for its rare, leather-bound tomes. Further upstairs, on the second floor, are a vast assortment of prints, posters, and mapsmost from the 18th and 19th centuriesall neatly tucked away in thematic files such as Civil War, Botanical Drawings, and Danish Royalty. The fifth and sixth floors hold Argosy’s most valuable treasures: autographs and first editions. But the only way to reach these riches is via an operator-assisted elevator and by appointment only.
