This 100-square-foot storefront pushes eco-friendly living to the extreme, peddling affordable furniture, crafty housewares, and toys created completely from cardboard. The shop’s well-designed tables and chairs are made of the durable honeycomb variety (the chairs can hold up to 600 pounds) and chemical-free, cornstarch-based glue. The brainchild of an eco-conscious graphic designer and a printer, the cardboard creations yield no byproducts in productionany leftover materials are recycled into paper. The green fixation carries over into the store’s monochrome interior, which gives the playful illusion of stepping into an oversized cardboard box. Cardboard rocket ships dangle from the ceiling, curved vases and modern serving dishes rest on cardboard shelves, and pod-like playhouses spill out onto the sidewalk to tempt passing kids. Larger furniture, like coffee tables, bookshelves, and desks, are available by web order only, shipped from the store’s New Jersey warehouse in plastic-free packing stuffed with organic corn-based peanuts.
