Profile
After a few years as an online storefront, Nalata Nalata opened its first brick-and-mortar outlet shortly before Christmas in 2014. The flagship offers a slice of the company’s curated homewares such as salad servers and little black bowls, which trend toward a modern spin on traditional Japanese furnishings. The shop is tucked into the near end of Extra Place, the quaint brick-floored alleyway just off First Street. The space is dominated by wood, from the floors to the shelves to many of the products on them. Even the ceiling gets in on the act: It’s covered by rows of light-hued slats that span the length of the modest space. The products are intricate little numbers, curated delicately to maintain a cohesive aesthetic vision for bedrooms, bathrooms, and common spaces. Even without the bonsai in geometrically twisted vases, the place and its wares would feel unmistakably Japanese.
