All northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway near Calabasas were reopened Sunday night after a burning vehicle on the side of the road sparked a brush fire.

The blaze near Las Virgenes Road was reported shortly before 3 p.m. and spread to about 170 acres. By Sunday evening the fire was 35% contained, and fire units were being sent home, Los Angeles County Fire Supervisor Rey Dong said.

As firefighters battled the blaze, California Highway Patrol officials gradually reopened lanes. By about 5:40 p.m., only the two far right lanes of the freeway were closed. By about 10:00 p.m., all lanes were reopened, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.
