John Bartlett has had a fascination with clothing ever
since he was 16-years-old, when he got his first Adam Ant haircut
and began experimenting with eyeliner. After graduating from
Harvard with a degree in sociology and studying economics in
London, Bartlett decided to follow his passion. The Ohio native
enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York
and landed his first job with Williwear. Despite shipping his
debut collection in a downpour in non-waterproof cardboard boxes,
Bartlett won the Woolmark Cutting Edge Award for Best New Talent
in 1992; two years later he garnered the CFDA's Perry Ellis
Award for New Fashion Talent.
