Marc Bouwer - New York Fashion Designer - Full Frontal Fashion
MARC BOUWER

South African-born Marc Bouwer didn't always want to be a designer. "I was a child actor and I had a good voice," he says. "But my mother had a friend who was a lingerie designer and she told me, 'You're going to be a designer,' because I always made things as a kid." Bouwer went to design school and won the South African Vogue Young Designers Award. He contemplated moving to Los Angeles, but ultimately realized he needed to be where every major designer was: in New York. Bouwer received his big break when none other than Roy Frowick Halston looked through his portfolio and commented, "I think you got something kid," and offered Bouwer a job. Today, Bouwer designs for many celebrities, including Whitney Houston, Shania Twain, and Toni Braxton. Bouwer made fashion history recently when his Mercedes Benz Fashion Week collection, which was entirely animal-product free, was sponsored by PETA.

Who Marc designs for: "My identity is body-fitting clothes for people who have great bodies, the beautiful sculpted bodies, the beautiful gorgeous faces, glamorous people, and thats the image that I want."
